Salvete Discipuli et Parentes,

Today in Latin we reviewed the all subjunctive forms for Latin verbs as well as 4 old subjunctive uses  and one new subjunctive use.

It is critical for the students to master this material and not let it slide.  The exercises in the text this week are really useful in multiple ways so please encourage your students to do as many of them as possible while also practicing the subjunctive forms.  The greatest value in doing the exercises will only occur if they are also checked and corrected until understanding occurs.

As the year continues we will learn additional uses of the subjunctive mood and it is important to fully understand and recognize each one as it comes so that confusion does not set in after there are quite a few to figure out.

I am not assigning a quiz this week in order to give the students time to practice all the exercises and to master the forms now.

If your students have time or interest, here is a link to an excellent introduction to Latin pronunciation.  We have not touched on the rules of pronunciation this year or last although I believe all of them have had it in Latin's Not So Tough.  I am working on increasing the emphasis on oral Latin because I believe this will encourage the students and strengthen their Latin abilities.

Vincamus simul Latinam Linguam.

Valete,

Just letting you know in case you missed it that the Challenge Tier of CC connected is now open and it is free to try this week.  Give it a shot and check out what is currently available.  I believe there are a number of Latin helps among other things.

Helpful Latin Links from Magistra Skwarek!

I am including links to some Highschool Latin class lectures that someone else is giving that have helpful songs for memorizing the pronoun forms.  These lectures though could also be useful as a review if your child is unsure about the subject.  This teacher covers a number of topics that we have studied or will study and they might find other items she has done to be useful in reviewing weak areas.

You can find additional offerings by this woman by clicking on her name.  There are several relating to the material we studied today.

In addition, these links can be helpful for quizzing the forms that are to be learned (relearned) this week.

Hello!
We are meeting Tuesday, October 2, only Challenges.  We will have Latin 1st!!!
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 7.  This will be our Museum Field Trip with the Baton Rouge Challenge II.  It has been listed on the calendar on the portal (my first blog entry).
Art grant presentation – I will introduce this project Tuesday and hopefully have a sample to show you. It is due Week 10.  See guide page 46 and 47 for instructions.
I will have a grade sheet for each of you from the Debate we had last Tuesday.
IEW writing helps.  I am attaching in the email an IEW reference guide.  This is really handy for the lists of ly words, adverbs, strong verbs, and quality adjectives, etc.  It works a lot like a synonym finder.  Even if you haven’t used IEW, this is extremely helpful in dressing up your papers.
Have a great weekend!  -Mrs. Ashley

No Class Next Week Tuesday, September 18

I will email you the Logic test to be taken at home, closed book, and returned to me next meeting, Week 5, September 25.  Work on assignments due Week 5.  Also due when we come back - Art Notebook/Timeline check.

Begin reading Pilgrim's Progress.  Paper will be due Week 6 (3 weeks)!  Utilize pages 42-44, 46 in the guide for help while reading this book.  NOTE you do NOT read the entire book, only the unabridged first part, The Pilgrim's Journey.

Be sure to finish reading the 3 safe debate articles.  This is your only prep for Week 5's debate.

See post below, I adjusted dates for the hurricane.
